Standby Alternator

Virginia Aviation is proud to announce the STC approval of our installation of the B&C Specialty Products BC425 Standby Alternator System in Cessna 182T/T182T/206H/T206H aircraft.  The B&C Specialty Standby Alternator system is comprised of four major components.  The BC425-1 alternator is mounted to the accessory drive pad on the Cessna that was formerly intended for a second vacuum pump.  The alternator will provide a continuous source of power up to 20 amps without loading the engine anymore than a vacuum pump.  The BC203-2D Alternator controller performs the automatic functions of the system and serves as the voltage regulator for the system.  The controller also is where the Standby Alternator Master switch is connected to the “STBY ALT ON” annunciator.  The STBY ALT master switch is added to the pilot’s checklist  and should be turned on when the aircraft is started. 

This makes all standby alternator functions automatic.  When the Alternator controller senses the primary aircraft alternator has failed it automatically assumes the load of the aircraft electrical system.  The STBY ALT ON light turning on annuciates the activation of this system.  Should the load of the aircraft electrical     system exceed the capabilities of the standby alternator then the controller will flash the “STBY ALT ON” light, warning the pilot to shed electrical load.

This system is available for purchase directly from Virginia Aviation and should take about 10 hours to install.  The STC and FAA Approved Flight Manual Supplement make certification of this system quick and easy.  This system can also be used as a second source of current generation to meet single engine 135 requirements.  (This must be approved by your local FSDO).
