Winter 2009 AMT Bulletin
Updated: January,
2009
General Information
All
new students must complete the Application for
Enrollment and submit it together with a check
payable to Virginia Aviation in the amount of One
Hundred Dollars ($100.00) prior to the start of
classes on May 4, 2009.
All
applicants who are accepted for enrollment in the
AMT program must sign the Enrollment Agreement and
pay, or make arrangements to pay, the tuition prior
to the start of classes on May 4, 2009.
Tuition
Payments
Failure to pay tuition or make satisfactory payment
arrangements prior to the start of classes will
result in cancellation of enrollment. Students may
make tuition payments in cash, by check or by using
a major credit card. Students who have taken out
loans from SLM Financial (Sallie Mae) will have
special arrangements made for tuition payment.
Tuition Refunds
In
the event that a student drops a course within the
first five class sessions or due to one of the
specified exceptions to the refund policy, a full
refund of tuition will be made.
After
the first five class sessions, a student who drops
out of a course will be refunded at the rate of 75%
of the prorated (based upon hours of instruction for
each course) course tuition for the portion of the
course remaining after the student gives written
notice of dropping the class. However, any student
who drops out of a course within the last two weeks
of scheduled classes will receive no refund.
For
example, a student who enrolls in VA 202, (which is
a ten week class involving 100 hours of
instruction,) and then drops the course after:
Four days (eight hours of instruction) receives a
full
tuition refund,
$1050.
Eight
days (16 hours of instruction out of the 100 hours
for the course) receives 75% of 84/100 of the $1050
tuition, or a $661.50 refund.
Twenty five days (50 hours of instruction, of the
100 hours of instruction scheduled for the course)
receives a tuition of 75% of 50/100 of the $1050
tuition, or a refund of $393.75.
The
exceptions to the tuition refund policy exist for
(1) death of the student or a member of the
student’s immediate family any time during the
scheduled class; (2) the hospitalization of the
student or a licensed physician’s statement of the
student’s disability to continue studies; (3)
administrative error made by the Aviation
Maintenance Technician School; or (4) the
cancellation of a class if no other course takes its
place.
Certificates upon Completion
Upon
satisfactory completion of the Aviation Maintenance
Technician program, Virginia Aviation will provide
the student with a Graduation Certificate certifying
the graduates to take the knowledge and practical
tests for the Airframe and Powerplant Mechanic
Certificate.
The
written tests required by the Federal Aviation
Administration, may be taken at Virginia Aviation.
The cost for these tests is included in the AMT
program tuition.
The
oral and practical portions of the Federal Aviation
Administration tests are given by independent (FAA
appointed) Designated Mechanic Examiners, at costs
to the student which are set by the individual
examiner, and are not included in the tuition of the
Virginia Aviation AMT program.
Placement Tests and Credit for
Previous Education
Pursuant to, and as limited by, Federal Aviation
Administration regulations, 14 CFR 147.31 (c),
students whose academic or work backgrounds meet the
requirements may obtain credit for that education or
work experience and be exempted from specific
classes or portions of classes. If a student
believes that they meet the requirements for
receiving credit, the student is required to provide
to the
AMT
School all appropriate
documentation required to establish the eligibility
for credit.
Prerequisites & Returning Students
Students are responsible for meeting all
prerequisites. In general, each course in the AMT
program must be completed before advancing to the
courses given in the subsequent semester. The
curriculum is designed to be taken serially as
presented in the Course Schedule.
Virginia Aviation’s
AMT
School has no current
provision for part-time studies. Students are
expected to continue from initial enrollment to
graduation without interruption over an eighteen
month period. If a student is required to drop
classes and wishes to later re-enroll in the
Virginia Aviation AMT program, the student should
consult with the AMT School Director regarding what
accommodations, if any, the School may be able to
make to allow the re-enrolling student to complete
the AMT program in the shortest amount of time.
Student Parking
Student parking is provided without charge in spaces
adjacent (to the west) of the class room building
and to the south of the hangar used by the
AMT
School. Students are not
permitted to park: in the Virginia State Police
Aviation Unit parking lot; anywhere within the
fenced area of the
Lynchburg
Airport; in fire equipment access
lanes; or in prohibited areas on the
Central
Virginia
Community College
campus.
